This is my magazine contents page, I believe that this contents page was a success. However, there was some aspects that

could of been improved to make my contents page even better, an example of this is that I could of used more than three

images on my contents page, this would of made my contents better overall as more images might of made the target audience see what is on that particular page. The good aspects on my contents page is that I used the same house style as the one on the front cover, this is good as it shows the magazine identity and what colours this magazine follows. However, as I used yellow on my front cover to make the overall cover more affective, I did not follow this and chose to stick with white, black, red and a touch of blue. I believe that I should of put yellow onto it as this would of made the contents stand out more.

 

A aspect that I thought I did well with is the masthead (Aquinas Contents) I believe this was overall a success because of how it stands out and how effective the masthead is by adding red onto the A on Aquinas and C on Contents. This followed on from my front cover because the A on Aquinas was in red. This shows a pattern showing up in the magazine and a layout technique used.

 

Another thing that I think I was a success on is having the web adress at the top of the page and having the email adress, this is a way of contacting us which shows audience particepation. Therefore, this is a good aspect because if the target audience have any ideas to add on Aquinas magazine we can take them on board and try to make the best possible college magazine possible. Another aspect which is good is the Editors letter, this is also a good aspect on the contents page because it shows the editor talking directly to the target audience. The connotations of this is that the target audience will feel special as the editor is saying thank you directly to them.

Aquinas Magazine Front Cover

I have used many coventions on my Aquinas Magazine Front Cover, due to this I believe that overall my front cover was a success. However, there are aspects that I could off improved. The first of my conventions I have used is the header at the top of the page, within this header I have an offer for the target audience. The connotations of this is that they will be persuaded to buy the magazine because of the £50 pound gift vocuher. The way I could of improved this is by offering the target audience more offers so that they will feel more rewarded. This is the first thing the audience will see because it is at the top of the page and it is in a bright colour, I am happy with the colour I chose as it is a colour that stands out from everything else on the page. I do not believe that this could off been improved because red, black and white works well together. Just above the title (Aquinas) is the tag line, the connotations of this is that it will persuade the target audience to buy the magazine, i also dont believe that this could off been improved because the tagline is short and effective which gets the point across better. Just above the main cover image is the masthead, Aquinas is in bold and the A is in red. The connotations and denotations of this is that it symbolises the colours of Aquinas college and also adds to the effect of the whole front cover and the majority of the text is in red and black. I think this cannot be improved as it is in bold which mean it will stand out from the rest of the page.

In the centre of the cover is the main cover star, the connotations of having him in the middle of the page is that it clearly stands out. Also, it is showing a direct gaze, the connotations of this is that the audience will feel special as they will think the magazine is being directed right at them individually. I think the main cover star cannot be improved any more than this because the image stands out and is in the middle so the audience will easily see it, however, instead of having one main cover star I could have other small images of people on the page as well, this would off add to the overall effectiveness of the front cover because it may off caught the audiences eye quicker. Next to the image I have got a pull quote, this is good but can be improved as I could of used more than one pull quote. 

Below exclusive interview I have got new phones coming out. This is ok but can be improved, the way I could of done this is by putting more phones on the page to give a better range for the audience. At the bottom left I have got a pug, next time I would include more than one to make the front cover more effective. Another thing that I could off put on this front cover that would off made it more effective is that I could off put the web adress at the bottom of the page, this would of used audience particepation and make the audience feel more part of the Aquinas Magazine.

A good picture uses natural lightning instead of flash or light being edited into the picture. Also, it should be clear and focused with good positioning using the rule of thirds, I have used the image that has been ticked as it is the best of the other pictures shown above. The picture has no lightning being affected into the image and it has the best posture, the other pictures are dark but in one of them a little bit of lightning is on it. Also, another reason why I have chosen this image to be my main image on my front cover is that the person is standing straight infront off the camera, in addition to this, this image is showing a direct gaze. The connotations of this is that this will make the target audience feel special because they will think the magazine is talking to them individually. This is not the same for the majority of the other pictures as they are not in the centre of the page, this is one key reason why I chose the image I did. Even though there is one image that is in the centre of the page the lightning has effect to this, therefore, I chose the picture that has the tick on.

Rule of Thirds

Rule of Thirds-

The Rule of Thirds is used on an image to divide it up into 3 thirds with line vertically and line horizontally making three coloumns, three rows and nine sections in the image. The Rule of Thirds is a key technique used in Media to determine placement of the image.

Summary of Audience Research

 

What phone do you own? My research shows that people mostly own an I Phone to any other phone. Most people chose this over Blackberry, Samsung and another phone people may use.

 

Your favoruite cloth shop? From looking at my research most people put Topman/ Topshop. Most people chose this over than Jack wills, Superdry, Hollister and other shops that other people might buy at.

 

Your favourite fast food restaurant? My research shows that most people favourite fast food restaurant is Nandos. Most people picked this over McDonalds, Pizza hut, Frankie and Bennies and KFC.

 

Social Networking sites? Most people are on Facebook than any other social networking sites. This is over other chocies like Twitter, Instagram and other sites.

 

Football team do you support? From looking at my research majority of people support Manchester City and Manchester United. Not many people support Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea from looking at my research.
